The name Yakov is of Hebrew origin and means "supplanter" or "heel-grabber." In the Old Testament, Yakov, also known as Jacob, was one of the patriarchs of the Hebrew people. He was the son of Isaac and Rebekah and the twin brother of Esau. Yakov famously tricked Esau out of his birthright and blessing, which led to their estrangement. Later in life, Yakov had 12 sons who became the founders of the 12 tribes of Israel. Today, the name Yakov is still commonly used in Jewish communities.
